Not so difficult. For Linux only: "screen Opensim........". You can install Opensim/ROBUST as "services" (Webmin has a good service manager).
Take a look at: http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Automating_Tasks And for the screen command: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/a-quick-tutorial-on-screen/ You can change between screens for accessing the opensim console. For windows... no idea, I don't use windows for servers, but I suppose that the screen command has been "migrated" for windows too ( http://www.gnu.org/software/screen/) MAC OSX... even less idea. 2011/5/10 James Stallings II <[email protected]> > This is a very broad topic involving the use of named pipes, complex shell > scripts wrapped around ps, etc. > > It isn't something that will be readily covered in an email as it is more > about how to use your operating system to cause programs to behave like > services than it is anything specifically germane to opensim. > > It -is- doable though, I've done it in the past on a fairly massive scale > (hundreds of simulators on the box). > > Good luck :-) > > James/Hiro > > > On Tue, May 10, 2011 at 5:45 AM, Pi And Company <[email protected]>wrote: > >> Just wondering if it is possible to run OpenSim and Robust in the >> background so an SSH tunnel is not nessessary to run it.
