For comparison, Ubuntu 14.04 (which I'm still using) has Linux kernel 3.13
with Mono 3.2.8. I haven't experienced
    such crashes there.

Ubuntu 10.10 has Linux kernel 3.16 but still with Mono 3.2.8. It will be
interesting to see if that combination
    also sees such problems.

I've been running "bleeding edge" Opensim on Ubuntu 10.10 for about 2 weeks,
with 100's of NPC's wearing multiple
scripted attachments logging in and out, and have not experienced any
instability.. I haven't bumped the mono version
up from the default yet. I will give that a try over the holiday.
