Small correction: 3. Viewer on internet and server behind NAT/firewall: The NAT/Firewall must allow all REQUIRED TCP and UDP ports in. The region config must contain the OFFICIAL IP, not the local IP.
Opening ALL ports would be just crazy of course. J This happens if the UDP communication between viewer doesn't work. The region (you have set up one, right?) contains an IP in its configuration, this must be the computers reachable IP. The region tells the viewer what IP to contact the region on. (it tells this via the grid) I guess there are 3 scenarios: 1. Local viewer and server: 127.0.0.1 will work fine 2. Viewer and server on same LAN: the IP of server will work fine 3. Viewer on internet and server behind NAT/firewall: The NAT/Firewall must allow all ports in. The region config must contain the OFFICIAL IP, not the local IP. Regions can be set to listen to a specific IP to (internal IP iirc), this can be set to 0.0.0.0 in any case. >From http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Configuration * Internal IP address - This should always be 0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0 means "listen for connections on any interface", basically a wildcard) if you want to access this server from the internet or another server on your internal network, this should be the IP address assigned to the OpenSim Server. You should also set up the server to Use a Static IP address, and not DHCP * External host name - If you leave this at the default 'SYSTEMIP' then this will become the LAN network address of the machine (e.g. 192.168.1.2). This is fine if you are connecting only from within your LAN. If you want to connect to it from a client on the internet, this should be the External IP Address of your router. Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs) should also work. I have OpenSim working and I can connect on the local machine but once I try to use another machine on the network the server accepts the user and sends a response to the client but then hangs on Waiting For Region Handshake. Can anyone help me on this? The machines are all networked and I put in the IP address of the server in the .ini file Many Thanks Stephen _______________________________________________ Opensim-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/opensim-users
