There are classically 2 steps to login.
1) When you start up the client and enter your name/password, it sends those
details to the login service. In this case the login service runs in the
robust server. If your password is correct, it tells the region simulator that
you're coming. It then sends back to you (the client) the ip address and port
to use to enter that region (as gleaned from your Regions.ini file).
2) Your client then connects to the region using those details.
Classically, the region handshake hang occurs because the region is sending
connection details to the client that it can't use successfully. I suggest
that you carefully check your Regions.ini.
Even if it's not the answer in this case, this question comes up often enough
that I copied it to the FAQ at
http://opensimulator.org/wiki/FAQ
and removed a load of outdated stuff. It would be really nice if we could add
to this page as common problems come up.
