Just launched another viewer to check the cache hypothesis. I have the same two unknown users, whatever viewer I use.
So my guess is the unknown user is not a viewer's cache issue, but a server issue. And the cache may have helped to remember some of them for some time, which may explain why these unknown user don't appear right after making them friends but later.
