Mono 2.10.9 should be absolutely fine.

Thanks! I did get it running using mono 2.10.9, which is the version that the Mac
"runtime" download installed. I've
written up my experiences in the ISM wiki at http://goo.gl/wztpd if anyone is
curious, with step-by-step procedure to
replicate it. I'm going to write about installing on Windows7 and Ubuntu, both
running under VirtualBox on the Mac, on
that page, too.

So far, though, no weirdness from mono, but I haven't actually done anything
other than see the startup complete, and
tell it to quit. MaƱana....

i can't comment specifically on the apple sauce, but i've been running
opensim under mono 2.10.9 on debian/ubuntu
gear for a while now and haven't imploded. in fact, things seem to run
quite nicely. definitely give it a shot.
do, however, steer clear of mono 2.11.x, just in case you were curious.
things turn weird...

I'm planning to install OpenSim on MacOS X Lion, and of course need to
bring Mono up to a more recent version than
what Apple installs with XCode (1.9.1). One of the README files says that
some newer versions of Mono may not
work well with OS, and to ask around. So, I'm asking. Has anyone used ver.
2.10.9 successfully, or should I use a
    legacy release? Which one?
