There should be no problem using OpenSimulator and Firestorm on Windows 8, just as long as its not Windows 8 RT, opensim nor any viewer will run on the ARM platform. As long as your hardware is Intel x86 there should be no problems, in terms of running it on a tablet itself, the viewer is not designed to be controlled by touch screen, you will probably find this less than optimal and may need to attach a mouse and keyboard to be able to use it efficiently.
