Ah alright. I'm not planning on using any material capable viewers on my install for the foreseeable future (Unless possibly the latest soon to be released firestorm introduces this? Not sure.) I usually stick with Phoenix 1600 anyway since its the viewer I've come to be comfortable with on my install that has all the features I want and isn't based on viewer 3 code.

Thanks for the responses Nebadon and Dahlia =)

Yes that is true; if the module is not enabled then it does not function and will not affect any viewers or data.

HOWEVER, using a materials-capable viewer to edit content on *any* OpenSimulator installation could affect data in possibly adverse ways as it might add texture references to scene data that will be unresolvable.

Part of the concern about data comes from the use of the new "Dynamic Attributes" feature in OpenSimulator to store materials information in the scene, and this new feature is not yet field-proven.

The "viewer crashes" warning should only apply when using using materials-capable viewers as the messages received from and sent to these viewers are not yet well understood, and improper structure or formatting of those messages has been observed to crash materials-capable viewers.

Hello all; I was wondering if it's "safe" to use the latest master
(as safe as dev code can be I suppose :) )? I was reading the the
note in commit d5419f about possible data corruption / viewer
crashes... Does that only apply if the module is enabled?

    Thanks!
