It might be good for machinima but in terms of a viable 3D collaberative world i suspect not, it would require that every person involved A) have a machine capable of running the latest GTA4, this is not a cheap investment and B) own a copy of Grand Theft Auto which probably comes in around 59-69$ a pop, not to mention if its anything like GTA4 connecting to the online was quite possibly one of the worst experiences I have ever encountered in online gaming, I do not have any faith in Rockstar games to deliver a good online experience. They make it look fun and fancy in their promotional videos but from my experience the actual product they deliver usually falls well short of what they are selling. Then you have the issue of not having any control over the servers and there could very well be issues with overloaded servers, Grand Theft Auto is one of the more popular games out there and servers could very well be overwhelmed all though this was not the case with the PC Version of GTA4, the servers were pretty dead and the online never really caught on with the PC version because of how difficult it was to connect, you also need to remember about 75% of the people who play GTA are on either XBOX or Playstation 4, your talking about two totally different markets at the end of the day, and honestly I do not see how OpenSim and GTA could ever really compete.
