OpenSimulator 0.7.6 should have run just fine with Mono 2.4.3. However, I'm

Mono 2.4.3 if you took the source code and recompiled it with Mono 2.4.3
yourself, though I would recommend using later Mono instead if at all possible.

The tarball did not run for me. That's a good thing since i'm now ready for 0.8.

In my experience, choosing a MONO version has always be a matter of black magic. From the beginning, i have tested a range of versions from 2.0.1 (that was opensim 0.6.4) to 3.2.4, with issues like crash at login, MySql failures, ScriptEngine crashes, inventory crashes.

2.4.3 has been my choice since April 2010.

I am happy now with 3.2.4.

I hadn't heard of that finalizer thread issue with Mono 2.10, at least on Linux. I can imagine Mac is significantly different in this area though, so possibly this is a Mac
 only issue.

All three issues reported (Tom Willans, Em Jannings and myself) were Mac OS.
So yes, this is probably a Darwin/Mach issue. MONO 3.2.4 seems to have cured it.
