Want to make a note because i think its not enabled by default, put bulletsim in its own thread.
you can do that by adding under [bulletsim] in opensim.ini

UseSeparatePhysicsThread = true

that seems to improve things to.

Yes, only BulletSim supports var regions at this time. I have never tried ODE with a var region (I actually thought the code stopped OpenSimulator starting in this case) but it wouldn't surprise me if the behaviour is to restrict movement
to 256 x 256.
