Hey all. I've been reading the discussions here over the past week, and have just decided to delurk and join.
Being a director of technology in the web world means understanding new technologies as they're emerging. Sometimes that's a painful thing, since those technologies are rapidly evolving, and no one (except perhaps those creating them) really understands them 100%. Over the past week, I've been digging in to OpenSocial to try and distill it down to some core questions, to make it more manageable for people who want to wrap their head around. Believe it or not, there's a lot of misinformation and confused statements flying around the old web. ;) So I thought I'd share the results of my work with you, even though the developers here are probably not the ones who need it most. I'd love to hear feedback, as well. The point of this article is threefold. 1) Help people understand the current landscape of widgets and social applications on the web; 2) answer questions about OpenSocial, which has just dropped on this landscape and will undeniably affect it; 3) help someone create their first OpenSocial widget. You can read more here: A First Look at OpenSocial.
