I thought the OpenSocial was based upon Google Gadget technology (like iGoogle gadgets), so I assumed iGoogle gadgets would become available for the social networks that support OpenSocial. But there's more to it I suppose. It would be nice though. Widgetbox has some kind of API for Facebook. The method you describe (put the gadget in a webpage) works in this case. But it's a long way to get an iGoogle gadget in Facebook:
iGoogle gadget --> webpage --> html based widgetbox widget ---> widgetbox facebook API --> Facebook application But it works. And iGoogle gadgets are really appreciated in the social networks.
