According to their blog of Dec 10, they are both supporting the OpenSocial API and creating the "LinkedIn Intelligent Application Platform".
AFAIK, no details of either of these have been released as of yet. They are asking anyone wanting to develop applications for use with LinkedIn to email them with details of what you want to build and what you need to build it with.... take from that what you will!
