Hi, the keyword here is "REST", you can do it through the OpenSocial REST API. The JavaScript OpenSocial Application is running in the user's browser, so if the user leaves the application, no code will run anymore. However you can create a server side application on your (favourite) server, and access the container's server by the REST API. As Scott says, it depends on the container what it allows you to do in the name of the user.
