That did help me, but there's still a piece of the puzzle missing for
me.  I can now store the user prefs through the ajax call (or could I
use the AppDataService too?).  How does the 'system' know where to
fetch the preferences from the next time it renders the gadget for the
user?  Do I also implement another function to fetch the data through
ajax?  If so where does this happen?
