Mick, In brief: yes, it is possible, and this is what we're doing in the project I'm currently working on.
We're using Shindig just for its gadget support, and disabling the social APIs because they don't presently make as much sense for us. Sometimes it feels like hammering a square peg into a round hole, however. The spec really wasn't designed with much consideration for sites other than social networks. On the other hand, the spec group is responsive to well-thought-out feedback and there seems to be a growing number of developers who are trying to use OpenSocial/gadgets outside of social networks, so I encourage you to jump in and try it, and report back any issues you have. -- Tim On Mar 23, 3:29 pm, Mick <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Guys, > > Can a site become an open social container without specifically being > a social networking site or even have social networking features. > > If I want to allow users to add gadgets to their own homepage on my > site I can see a lot of advantages in using a standard like open > social. > > Cheers, > Mick --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Implementing OpenSocial Containers" group.
