Hi Guys Happy Holidays :) I have been thinking about apps some and need your opinion if you have some time: As we look for tighter integrations of apps on MySpace as extensions of our core offering we find ourselves faced with the challenge of not knowing which apps are good and what exactly they do other than what was claimed when they were first built until they gain a lot of adoption.
Also its very hard to leverage the social objects which were created in the apps and use them to properly enrich our offering. I think that we need to have the apps provide the containers apis which will allow for these richer integrations. We cannot assume all the data is being written back to the container. Have you guys considered doing a functional classification of apps and templatizing them a bit more. For example if I am an event provider app then I should offer a get on events for the user. That way the container can show all these events on their master calendar. Whether they are upcoming concerts the user is going to or sports matches he will be following.... Another example would be game apps providing an API that gives you the badges or points or games the user has won. Of course the container would need to make sure this cannot be abused but i think that in general we should consider the container and the app equivalent systems and be able to have programmatic rw access to both. Let me know what you think or efforts around this which are already in the works Thanks ! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Implementing OpenSocial Containers" group.
