Hi Dustin,

The post is a little big vague on the application submission
process, so let me try to shed some light. We're whitelisting in
order to have high quality applications available to end users at
launch, because we want applications on Orkut to make a great first
impression! We also want to scan for malware, spyware, or
applications that violate our TOS.

Some firm rules of what will be required at launch:
   * The applications must work. No 404s or broken links.
   * Applications must be social OR self-expressive.
   * You cannot reveal personal data, like email (which is not
delivered by the API).
   * Meets our terms of service - no nudity, hate speech, violent
content, or illegal content

We're also trying to encourage developers to make their applications
look polished on Orkut. Try to mimic standard fonts, colors, and
elements. Make sure your application has the icon and description
fields set. There also shouldn't be any UI glitches when viewed on
Orkut - there shouldn't be items out of place or a lot of extra
scrollbars on the page. Again, this is more of a suggestion than a
requirement - maybe your app has its own look and feel that works for
what it does, which is fine.

We're not going to be "social application fashion police" - we won't
make judgements based on what your application does or what its
intended audience is. If you write something polished, there's a good
chance it'll get in. If you're looking for ways to spruce up your
application to be more successful, then the best practices article[1]
should give you some ideas.

Hope that clears things up a bit,
