Hi, and welcome to the group! While the OpenSocial API cannot be used to add new friends, you can use it to retrieve a list of existing friends for both the application's owner (the individual who installed the application) and the viewer (the individual who is currently using the application). The OpenSocial and orkut developer guides have a number of examples that demonstrate how to do this and other retrievals using the API:
