Hi sb. Yes, this is fine as long as you can authenticate the user with AOL entirely within the IFrame. Your application should have distinctive chrome so users are aware that they are still using your application within orkut, and you should probably include some explanatory text so users understand why they're being prompted for AOL credentials.
While I've never used AOL's authentication system, I've found gadget- based token exchange to be pretty tricky in the past -- if you manage to find a clean, secure way to do this, I encourage you to write up an article which we can feature either on the opensocial-resources wiki or, even better, code.google.com.
