There are no rules barring updates about trade or betting. I haven't seen this before, but I don't see why you can't redirect application users to your app from your own server as long as your server is reliable (e.g. doesn't time out as users wait to load your application). If you include your own links to the application's canvas view, make sure the link redirects to the owner's context rather than the viewer's -- if the viewer doesn't have the app, this will redirect to the app install page, which is not allowed. Redirecting to the owner's context (as orkut does when a user clicks the app's name which orkut automatically inserts) is fine.
