Are you trying to test your gadget on the sandbox? If so, please follow the directions in the following section of the Orkut Developer's Guide: http://code.google.com/apis/orkut/docs/orkutdevguide/orkutdevguide-0.8.html#concepts
You can also use the OpenSocial Dev app (http://osda.appspot.com/) to test the opensocial calls in your gadget.
