Hi sdg, They are not the same. First one is the *new* project which is being developed by orkut team, it´s not completely done yet, and supports 3legged auth, written in java
The second one is restful based, and supports 2legged auth. So, answering your question, right now, just java version if you want to interact. Also note, if need to be whitelisted to use the new api.
