I just noticed that we're building the iframe with view=default. The default view is supposed to be the canvas view, but it's also a fall-back when we look for the "canvas" view and don't find one.
I take it you didn't change your gadget XML at all? Your XML looks a lot different than what I'm used to see. Any reason you don't use separate <Content> tags like documented in http://wiki.opensocial.org/index.php?title=OpenSocial_Views_Developer's_Guide?
