I am pleased to announce the CIFS Server project, which provides an
integrated kernel CIFS service for the OpenSolaris operating system.

Community page: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/cifs-server

The Common Internet File System (CIFS), also known as SMB, is the
standard for Windows file sharing services, and one primary goals
of the project is to provide seamless, ubiquitous, cross-protocol
file sharing in Windows and/or Solaris environments. This initial
integration of the CIFS Server supports file sharing in Workgroup
and Domain mode, with substantial enhancements to the OpenSolaris
file system, services and commands to accommodate Windows file
sharing attributes and semantics.

This project integration is the result of several years of work and
collaboration with various teams in the Solaris development
organization. I would like to thank all those who have contributed
to the project and helped in a successful initial integration, and
I would like to invite the OpenSolaris community to get involved at
the project page above.
