We would like to announce the the OpenSolaris.org Web Stack project. the project website can be found at http://opensolaris.org/os/project/webstack
From there, you can find the current thoughts about the Web Stack project's goals and direction. In summary, the project aims to address the OpenSolaris community needs for a set of Web Stack components. This includes, for example, an AMP stack on OpenSolaris. The project will always aim to work with and contribute to the upstream projects wherever possible, but also recognizes that some things, like discussion of DTrace providers, integration with OpenSolaris security, SMF manifests, etc. are appropriate for OpenSolaris community discussion. Additionally, the project aims to share and exchange best practices on building/compiling/using various Open Source web stack components on OpenSolaris. While we've seeded a source code repository with an enhanced version of the work that had originally gone into Cool Stack, we aim for whatever is best for the OpenSolaris community and hope to work with contributors to build the best OpenSolaris Web Stack. These are best practices we hope all OpenSolaris distributions and Solaris/Solaris Express packaging projects will use. We've provided links from the site to the various projects which provide web stack binaries, some of which use best practices out of the prior Cool Stack project. Please join us in enhancing the Web Stack on OpenSolaris! - Matt -- Matt Ingenthron - Web Infrastructure Solutions Architect Sun Microsystems, Inc. - Global Systems Practice http://blogs.sun.com/mingenthron/ email: matt.ingenthron at sun.com Phone: 310-242-6439
