Dear Solarizens,

a new OpenSolaris project was initiated: "Pluggable Sockets"
(http://opensolaris.org/os/project/pluggable-sockets) will add an
interface that allows to add custom socket adress families, protocols
and types to the kernel without modifying the kernel source (as it is
currently required).

This will be useful to implement light-weight (high-peformance)
communication protocols with socket semantics, or new "full" (IP-based)
protocols like RDS.

This interface will be used via the existing /etc/sock2path
configuration file, which will not only support /dev pathes to point to
the implemenation, but also name kernel modules that will be loaded
dynamically.

Any feedback is welcome. We currently use the networking-discuss mailing
list as mail volume is expected to be low.

  thanks, Joachim
