NexentaOS (elatte) Alpha 4 is now available for download at http://www.gnusolaris.org/Download.
This release provides: ============== * Better platform support 64-bit platforms are supported again (we lost it somewhere between Alpha 1 and Alpha 3). In addition, fixed a so called "fatal signal 9" problem, which in fact was inability to run on certain types of AMD Athlons. * Massive synch-up and cleanup of the userland Taking advantage of the Nexenta AutoBuilder, we rebuilt most of our userland packages. In the process: merged with the latest stable upstream, fixed various install and build-time dependency problems, fixed a number of package-specific bugs. * Installer NexentaOS Installer, re-designed and optimized for speed. The installation should be noticeably faster now, especially when done on a real hardware (for VMware you could use pre-installed image, see below). In addition to upgrading from previous versions, NexentaOS Installer now supports full and minimal installations. This is the first step, in terms of supporting custom installation profiles. * NexentaOS Hardware Database Alpha 4 comes with a new system utility that, in part, will identify local system hardwares and generate a report. The latter can be used to better diagnose and troubleshoot hardware-related problems. Alpha 4 is based on OpenSolaris build #36, non-DEBUG kernel. Packaging and Packaging ================ Alpha 4 contains 3627 packages. In addition to InstallCD and LiveCD, we now provide a ready to be used pre-installed VMware image that can be "played" in VMware Player. If VMware is an option for you, the installation can be completely skipped. Thanks! -- Nexenta Team.
