To the OpenSolaris Community, I would like to announce small success of OpenSolaris Serbia Community regarding contribution to the increasing market-share of OpenSolaris OS and its surrounding technologies.
Thanks to Teresa Giacomini, we successfully inserted OpenSolaris 2009.06 into December issue of our regional Computer World magazine with circulation of 35 000 copies approximately. After two months we have been approached by very different societies and companies where they express interest to test or use it. We gave some talks on our meetings to be able to explain potential of OpenSolaris and advantage over Linux distributions. So far, I could state that OpenSolaris is in use in following companies and organizations: * Serbia Railways (National Railway operator - approx. 25 000 employees) * Radio Television of Serbia (Public Service Company designed like Serbian equivalent of BBC) * Serbian Society of Midwifes (They are using OpenSolaris on all their computers because it is free and could run OpenOffice software while having lot of features needed for storage servers) * Serbian Supercomputing Agency (They are testing OpenSolaris for a while since they have plans to buy HPC hardware very soon) I'm really happy regarding ORACLE's acquisition of SUN since ORACLE has regional branch in Belgrade, Serbia. Having in mind fact that our IT market is very unsaturated I look at it as great opportunity for ORACLE. From my perspective, ROI of our action would be very high. I hope ORACLE will give us some free space on a longer term where we could meet on a bi-weekly basis and talk about OpenSolaris and its surrounding technologies. In this announcement I would like to give special thanks to our Operational Leader, Nikola Milosavljevic, for his efforts in organization of transportation of CD and taking care that everything would be delivered on time.
