and one more that falls out of the NFS area:

Is the database written such that it can be read and written to by a 
system of the opposite endianness (eg written on sparc, read on x86). 
Note that ZFS adaptive endianness doesn't help you here this is the 
applications responsibility ZFS only adapts its own metadata.
