Hi. So, here are my findings.
There is a way to set up an automatic update, so that the IDE automatically checks available updates for the plugins. If is off by default. When IDE is executed by a user (not root) the plugins you install are stored withing user dir (in the, so called, "workspace" directory). When IDE is exected from under root, the existing Eclipse installation is updated. Let me know if there are further questions to it. Shura.
