NFS/RDMA Transport Version Update 2007/347
   Submitter: Spencer Shepler
       Owner: James Carlson
      Intern: Sebastien Roy

Project Summary
   Project Description:

Update the RDMA transport version to match the
recently IETF working group approved RPC/RDMA
internet drafts. The current NFS/RDMA transport
implementation is non-standard and does not
interoperate with anything other than Solaris.

Technical Description:
   Details:

The current NFS/RDMA implementation will be used
as a guide for updating to the latest IETF Internet
Drafts. The basic infrastructure is sufficient for
the integration of the new transport definitions.
The major change is moving from a "read-read"
transport protocol to the "read-write" protocol
as defined in the current IETF drafts. The move to
"read-write" is important for two reasons:
     1) it leaves the NFS server in control of
        the memory manipulation and
     2) the performance of the read-write solution
is a minimum of 5-6x improvement over the
        current "read-read" mechanism.

The IETF Internet Draft to be implemented is
entitled "RDMA Transport for ONC RPC"
     (draft-ietf-nfsv4-rpcrdma-05).

     Companion documents that represent motivation
and NFS level guidelines for implementation are:

       draft-ietf-nfsv4-nfs-rdma-problem-statement-06

         -and-
