There is another important thing that should be thought of:

Integrating software from free protable sources should not result in trying to 
patronise the Author of that software in a way that happened for me with star.

Long time after Sun did decide to have a lon term replacement of Sun tar by star
(PSARC 2004/480), Sun did make non-agreed extensionsto Sun tar that violate 
current POSIX rules.

The Suntar/star replacement could happen much sooner if we name those 
extensions 
"iofficial" and transient.


A conclusion from trying to benefit from OSS is the need to have a nicely 
cooperation at eye-level....


Besides the fact that it is helpful to have a hard technical based discussion, 
it needs to be done in a way that includes the OSS authors.
