Several messages in the There is another important thing that should be thought of: Integrating software from free protable sources should not result in trying to patronise the Author of that software in a way that happened for me with star. Long time after Sun did decide to have a lon term replacement of Sun tar by star (PSARC 2004/480), Sun did make non-agreed extensionsto Sun tar that violate current POSIX rules. The Suntar/star replacement could happen much sooner if we name those extensions "iofficial" and transient. A conclusion from trying to benefit from OSS is the need to have a nicely cooperation at eye-level.... Besides the fact that it is helpful to have a hard technical based discussion, it needs to be done in a way that includes the OSS authors.
