... It seems like the criticisms of using "TAD," as a prefix are mostly to do with the cosmetic appearance. Directory naming for platforms doesn't appear to be an issue for the x86 platform and it is really too late in the piece to bring in a new naming standard for outsiders, so I can't see why we should require "TAD,douglas" instead of "douglas" (in other words, stay as proposed.) But it is worth noting that this case causes the directory name space for platforms to become shared between all vendors wishing to provide code as part of OpenSolaris and is no longer just Sun's.
