Resending - apparently this fast-track email didn't automatically get
sent out. I have updated the one-pager with interfaces details as
requested during our meeting this morning.
Timer is reset to Jan 13, 2009.

2. Project Summary
2.1. Project Description:
LSARC 2008/691 describes integration of OpenDS server in
OpenSolaris and has already been approved.
This project intend to deliver the OpenDS tools in OpenSolaris.
2.2. Risks and Assumptions:
None.
3. Business Summary
OpenDS users need the versions of these CLI tools provided with OpenDS.
While there are already two sets of LDAP tools in OpenSolaris, there
are a number of diffenrences with the OpenDS tools that justify
their addition in OpenSolaris :
- Some options available in the OpenDS tools are not available in the
OpenSolaris tools.
- Parity between packages and zip.
- The OpenDS documentation reference the OpenDS tools, users of
OpenDS might find confusing the
- Easier transition from of users from Zip to IPS packages
- Ability to use the same technology for cert management on the
client and
the server side.
4. Technical Description:
4.1. Details:
The proposal is to update the OpenDS package described in LSARC
2008/691
to include the OpenDS LDAP tools. These four additional tools will be
shipped in the same directory as the others OpenDS binaries :
/usr/opends/bin/ldapsearch
/usr/opends/bin/ldapmodify
/usr/opends/bin/ldapcompare
/usr/opends/bin/ldapdelete
In general, the OpenDS versions of these utilities are upward-
compatible
with the existing versions in /usr/bin. However, a number of additional
CLI options are supported by the OpenDS versions, and some of the
shared
CLI options have somewhat different behavior. The differences are
numerous, and the full CLI syntax for each utility is provided at the
web link below for each new interface.
