Gee, I haven't seen this topic in a while, but it used to be a very 
common discussion.

The discussion has always returned to:

    Manpages are declarative and should not contain advice (other than 
Obsolete components).  Advice from Sun should be redirected to guides 
(or such) and should never contain advice on choosing among appropriate 
(non-Sun) products.

I think FOSS communities are close enough in concept to being "products".

I feel like Bill Murray in "Groundhog's Day".
