Just one question: does gethrtime always give you at least millisecond
precision?  I know it gives that much resolution, but I was under the

words, in some places, it make report values scaled out to nanoseconds,
but actually count upward in 10ms chunks.)


Actually resolution varies, but we use some sort of high res timer
on all supported platforms.  Worst case resolution is prob. some
older boxen w/ 100 Mhz or so stick timers...

If my understanding is right. It should still be able to guarantee at least millisecond resolution even on those old boxes.

Note that with imprecise time resolution, the worst thing is overestimated buffer size. It is certainly not optimal.
