I suspect there will always be some people who want to write or change code purely for their own purposes, and that's okay. But I think you're talking about a case where you see a need for an improvement that will benefit all users of OpenSolaris. You could post to the OpenSolaris fora that seem appropriate. Or, you could post a project proposal. The project proposal may get more attention, so you might try that if the first approach doesn't work.
