Whoa there. While the "half-assed workaround" doesn't correct the problem or stop the spread of unlicensed code, only performing an ordinary backout guarantees the spread. Protecting innocent people from being unwitting parties to license infringement (if that is indeed the issue here) every time they hg clone has value.
