I assume he's referring to this kind of shellcode: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shellcode

Not an area I've ever needed to know much about and I assume there are fairly tight constraints on what the assembler can generate, but I would have thought /usr/ccs/bin/as was a better starting point than nasm (hmm, and "as" seems to have moved to /usr/bin in Nevada)
