I don't recall them either.  The patch I'm talking about was such that
ctfconvert didn't choke anymore.  If ctfmerge was also causing
problems that's something I didn't know about.  Either way, there's
agreement the patch was not a real fix (even if nobody recalls why,
right now), and you have an alternative.
