Try "ls -gofigure". Nah, honestly, what's wrong with the idea of allowing it ? Just because it might look odd when abused ? There are quite a few programs out there which e.g. increase the verbosity level based on the number of '-vvvvv...' parameters given. Seems a thing of strong personal preference ? What problems does the above permissiveness cause ?
