You cannot change the metadevice names under the mirror, just the name of the mirror metadevice. I usually create just one mirror half. This uses up the "d1" name. Then I set up the rest through a custom run-once start/stop script. That creates the second mirror half, attaches it, detaches the first mirror half, renames it, and reattaches it. I only do this for the root slice, since all the rest can be done "on the fly" afterwards. Complicated, but it saves one reboot during custom jumpstart.
