Beimhoff, iscsi initiators mostly create random I/O, so your 24 disks raidz2 zpool behaves badly in this respect.
Try with four raidz stripes of six disk each or, even better, twelve couples of mirrors which make you lose half of the available space but will give you outstanding random I/Os. Best regards.
