There are presently no new SPARC workstations. IBM had some software that would let SPARC binaries run on x86, but as far as I know, they've killed it except for existing customers.
One of the last generation of SPARC workstations, used, should still be supportable, I think. Even with a Sun Blade 2000, the main problem I know of is lack of graphics card support. A Solaris 8 branded zone on Solaris 10 might be able to run existing applications, although in many cases, existing applications should be able to run directly on Solaris 10 or later, too.
