Does Linux actually uses Intel's one or is that written from scratch? If the question is non-sensional and stupid, say so, I know nothing about ACPI, except that bugs related to it cause my computer components (keyboard, mouse, floppy, who knows what else, Jan was mentioning serial ports, but I don't use them) to vanish.
