I would think a simple solution to that would be that when vt's are enabled, to add the ability to have the system automatically timeout and reset idle vt's after X amount of time... Better yet find a way to have idle vt's after so many minutes require re-authentication without "losing" wherever they're at. Yes, I know this isn't such a simple thing on the console, especially with all the different possibilities as to what might be currently running.
