<And just how did AMD CPU's change the performance characteristics of Solaris x86? My experience with Operton CPU's indicate that any OS installed on a system using them is fast! RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 screams on the 7 V20z's we have running at the moment.>
I must admit that I don't understand your comment. Isn't the fact that Sun was willing the take the risks and then able to so successfully port Solaris 10 to the 64-bit Opteron/Athlon64 architecture a truly great feat? Can IBM/HP do that? No. How about SGI? (SGI should serve a vivid example of the dire consequences of going all Linux.) W/o this, we will be forever stuck with the poor Slowaris_86 image. Then, as I was told, if you care for an extra couple of 9's in the stability, go with the SPARCs. I think I begin to like OpenSolaris even more. Thanks again for taking time to post your learned opinions.
