<steps on soapbox>

Hi.

i would like to start by saying that the generosity of OpenSolaris'
proposal for the desktop community exceeded my expectations.

i somehow get the feeling that all these discussions are straying us
away from what we set out to accomplish initially: reach an agreement
(read: compromise) amongst ourselves. we have a common goal, we want
to build the Solaris/OpenSolaris desktop into
- something really cool, original, architecturally sound and
technically accomplished on its own merits
- a model for many of the other open source communities

i consider that JDS/GNOME and KDE Solaris have reached an agreement on
this matter. insofar as solaris.kde.org is concerned, we intend to
honor this agreement, and we are going to work towards observing this
agreement. and i also firmly believe that this is the intention of the
JDS/GNOME team as well, and i am extremely happy about that.

i am fully aware that, what had originally started as a conversation
about desktops has evolved into something much more complex. but right
now i am a little confused with all these intertwined threads: some of
the threads i was expecting are missing, while others seem to have
gotten their stacks mixed up.

could we set a breakpoint and do a stack trace ? :-)
